By becoming a DJ at The U, you can get practical experience both on and off the air producing your own radio programs and/or becoming involved with leadership behind the scenes. Training is quick and easy, and the experience is fun!
The U participates in campus events during the school year such as UM-St. Louis’ annual Mirthday celebration and by supporting other campus organizations. We also hold our own events and concerts.
The U is one of the most diverse student groups on campus. You will get the opportunity to meet and network with a variety of talented individuals from all kinds of backgrounds.
Are the positions paid?
No, all positions are currently on a volunteer-only basis.
What types of programs are on The U?
The U’s format is free form, which means that instead of broadcasting one particular type of programming, we seek to meet the needs of a diverse listener base.
Our DJs produce a wide range of programming, from music of all genres to talk shows about news, public affairs, sports, arts and much more.
Who can apply for a time slot?
Students may apply for weekly one hour time slots, while UM-St. Louis staff may apply for half hour to one hour slots.
What other positions can I hold besides being a DJ?
The U’s executive board currently consists of a faculty advisor, chief engineer and webmasters in addition to a student staff made up of the SEMPA president, a station manager, program director, music director, marketing director, student engineer, campus affairs director and events director. In addition, several positions may arise as needed.
Elections for station manager occur at the end of every spring semester, and the hiring of other executive positions occurs as needed at the discretion of the manager.”
