The Pirate Joe Radio Show 5/16/08 Final

Submitted by Pirate Joe on Fri, 05/16/2008 - 2:55pm.

Good Friday to all! Sometimes when certain pirates who broadcast on The U aren't forced to go into the station at God-awfully early in the morning, those pirates aren't as inclined to get up at that same time to do a radio show... er... blog... show. Anyway, this is my attempt to keep you all entertained while the station is down and I know that even as I sit here in front of my computer, that I will not be able to finish the show before I have to get up off my rump and go to work. But, here goes nothing!

This is The (award winning) Pirate Joe Radio Show. I am the one and only Pirate Joe. We've had a very interesting TWO weeks in the news. I say two weeks because I unfortunately missed my last show of the spring semester to type up a final paper. And, as always, in good Pirate Joe fashion, we won't really touch any of those exciting news stories. Instead we'll talk about meaningless junk I can find on the internet on Friday morning before most of the news sites are updated for the day. This is true despite the fact that I'm submitting my show so late in the day because I did get up early and start surfing the web with all the intention in the world to do this bright and early this morning. Unfortunately, the desire to do other things made an attack on my "Will Defense" and beat my Will AC. (Translation: I didn't have the will power to sit at MY computer, that is not the station's, and not succumb to playing video games).

With that said, let's kick this show off right!

Okay, after that, I feel the need to warn you that I'm not looking at the videos. I'm just picking the videos that play the songs I want to play. If you like the videos, great! If you don't like the videos, cry to "SneakyScott42" or something. I just can't help you there.
(If you really want to cry to SneakyScott42, here's his Youtube channel: http://www.youtube.com/user/SneakyScott42 ). I don't think it's a good choice of action, though because I don't know SneakyScott and he sounds like he may be dangerous.

Ahoy, mateys. Aye, me hardies. Avast you scurvy sea dogs, land lubbers and slimy bilge rats! It's time for The Pirate Joe Radio Show.

There are plenty of newsy type things for us to talk about today. You can rest assured that I've found the things that I want to talk about most, because, for the first time in my life. I've screwed up Firefox opening the tabs for the show. At last count, there were 96 and I'll be sifting through those and giving you the ones I think truly stand out without having to roll through all of them or any one subject that is too serious to dwell on for any length of time.

Be forewarned that I'm not summarizing the stories because I am linking to them. Note also, that I am not saying that any website is worthwhile, or that it is a good idea to read in detail. The kinds of things I base my show around sometimes have advertisements that I'm not fond of and words in their text that I can't (and wouldn't want to) say on the radio. Participate in the show this week at your own risk.

Wow, there's a lot to chew on in this one. The summary of this is that a lot of the people who partake in these activities have a number of annoying habits across the board. I think that at least some of these have an actual place in society. The instances where I'd say this article is wrong is with the iphone, it can be used effectively, Guitar Hero, if you include Rock Band in that too, and Blue Tooth headsets which are extremely useful even though people misuse them in public. As for the rest, the author is pretty spot on and we may want to start evaluating some friendships based on these, fairly obvious, flaws in those we know.

While I'm on the subject of lists. I found this one too.

Because manliness is a staple on The Pirate Joe Radio Show I thought I'd put this out there for the audience to ponder. Having not read all of the books on the list I can't say what I think of the list in its entirety, but I can tell you that there are cases in which I disagree and may, at some future date, be inclined to do the list the way it should have been done the first time.

Sorry about how my song choice is working today. I'm at the mercy of YouTube so I can't really pick the versions of the songs like I normally would. I would have played the studio version of this song if I could have.

Okay, all. I've taken a step back and looked at what I was doing and while I really have no problem with what I was doing, it is just too much work for me to get in this weekend. I'm sorry to all who were looking forward to a whole show, but, dang! Try typing out an hour's worth of your own talking and you'll see what I mean.

Obviously, even if I had all the time to type out my thoughts, it wouldn't be The (award winning) Pirate Joe Radio Show since I couldn't find "Road Movie To Berlin" on YouTube. Have fun all. I'll try to post some next week.
